August, 24 2011

Gallaudet Student, Heather Breitbach, receives $1,000 scholarship for academic excellence.

Hamilton Relay, a leading provider of telecommunications relay services, awarded Gallaudet University Senior Heather Breitbach of Melrose, Minnesota, a $1,000 college scholarship towards her graduate studies in Deaf Education.

"Gallaudet University is an exceptional institution of higher education and Heather has proven to be an extraordinary student," said Hamilton Relay Vice President, Dixie Ziegler. "It is an honor for us to support students like Heather in the pursuit of their academic and career goals."

Heather, an English and Communications Studies major at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., was awarded the Hamilton Relay College Scholarship for her consistent academic achievement. Heather is an outstanding student who was the recipient of the Lillian Gourley Rakow Writing Contest, the Teegarden Poetry award, and placed second place in the MacDougall Writing Contest. She is on the Dean's list and is a member of Delta Zeta sorority. Heather enjoys writing and photography in her spare time and plans to attend graduate school to continue her studies in Deaf Education. Her goal is to pursue a career teaching English to students who are deaf.

"Heather's dedication to the deaf community is admirable," said Zeigler. "We at Hamilton have no doubt she will be incredibly successful in her future endeavors."

The Hamilton Relay College Scholarship opportunity is offered to students at select universities who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking. The program is one of several ways the company gives back to the communities it serves.
