Barbara Carlin selected for Hamilton Relay 2021 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Iowa

Barbara Carlin of Gilmore City, Iowa has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2021 Deaf Community Leader Award recipient for the state of Iowa. Barbara brings enthusiasm and energy to the state with her advocacy efforts for the Deaf community at the local, state and national level.

An active volunteer, Barbara has been a board member on the Iowa Association of the Deaf and the Iowa School for the Deaf Alumni Association. She is a member of the Deaf Coalition of Iowa and a Deaf representative on the Department of Health’s Early Hearing Detection and Intervention advisory council.


Barbara is also a member of the Iowa Dual Party Relay Council. She works at the state level with the Deaf Grassroots Movement for Iowa and has participated at the national level.

She shares via vlogs about ASL communication, Deaf rights, Deaf Grassroots and other relevant issues for Iowans who are Deaf. She is one of 12 Iowa Deaf Mentors for Deaf Children and their parents.

Her volunteer work benefits the Deaf community statewide, but she is also involved locally as a member of the North Central Club of the Deaf in Gilmore City.

Barbara often takes on a leadership role and contributes her time and energy to furthering the goals of the organizations in which she is involved. We thank Barbara for her commitment and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2021 Deaf Community Leader Award for the state of Iowa.
