Ana Ramos Gonzalez selected for Hamilton Relay 2013 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the State of Iowa

June, 06 2013

Ana is a mentor, role model, and dedicated advocate for individuals with speech difficulties. She gives back to her community through volunteerism, leadership and perseverance using her own experience with difficulty speaking to educate and empower others.

Ana is actively involved and very well known at Iowa State University (ISU) where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems. Since 2008, she has been actively engaged in multiple departments at ISU including Multicultural Student Affairs, Trio Student Support Services Program, Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program, and Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Incorporated. Her involvement remains steady while she pursues a Masters in Education.

Ana served as the Director in Training for DREAMS, the Developing Responsible, Educated, and Aware Multicultural Scholars, where she was instrumental in expanding a mentoring program that organizes campus visits and educational and leadership activities designed to motivate multicultural high school students to further their education.

In the Spring of 2013, Ana attended the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) to facilitate an all-day workshop for the Latino Knowledge Community Institution. She's also an active participant in the Latino Graduate Student Association, is serving an assistantship with the Multicultural Student Affairs Office, and facilitates weekly meetings through the LGBT Student Services group. Her graduate work revolves around advocating for the needs and interests of under-represented student populations.

Ana does not restrict her activities to university groups as she participates in multiple fundraisers for organizations including the American Cancer Society, ACCESS shelter for domestic and sexual assault, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

We commend Ana for her leadership in the community and are proud to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2013 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award.
