Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) enables people who use a Text Telephone (also called a TTY, a TDD or TT) to communicate freely with people who use a standard telephone. Q: What is Internet Relay?
A: Hamilton Internet Protocol Relay (HIP Relay) is a 24-hour service that allows computers and other web devices to connect to HIP Relay via the Internet in order to place a call to any standard telephone user. During an Internet Relay call, a text user connects to the relay via the Internet instead of calling 7-1-1 or an 800 number. The CA handles an Internet relay call the same as a regular relay call. The CA "voices" or reads everything the computer or text end of the call types and types everything they hear on the standard telephone user’s end. HIP Relay is another way for people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Speech Disabled to communicate through the relay with anyone at anytime.
