Hamilton Relay to provide captioning services through new contract with Captioned Telephone, Inc.

April, 26 2011

Company adding positions to its headquarters in Aurora, Nebraska to handle captioned telephone calls.

Hamilton Relay, a division of Hamilton Telecommunications, announced that it has signed a contract with Captioned Telephone, Inc., to provide Captioning Services. As a result, Hamilton will begin processing Captioned Telephone (CapTel®) calls for thousands of individuals who use the service daily. To start, Hamilton will add Captioning Assistant (CA) positions at its telecommunications headquarters in Aurora, Nebraska.

Captioned Telephone Relay Service (CTRS) is designed for individuals who have difficulty hearing on the telephone. Through the use of a CapTel® phone, users can "see what they say" and not miss a word of their telephone conversations. Specially trained CAs use advanced voice recognition technology to convert everything that's said by the standard phone user into captions that appear on the large, bright screen of a CapTel phone. As a result of Hamilton's call processing, CapTel phone users will experience greater diversity and redundancy in call handling.

"Hamilton is proud to begin processing CapTel calls in our centers using the latest developments in telecommunications and technology along with our own Hamilton workforce," said Dixie Ziegler, Vice President of Hamilton Relay. "This is an exciting opportunity for Hamilton, its employees and the individuals served by CapTel."

Hamilton has established and maintained a strong relationship with Captioned Telephone, Inc., while providing CapTel services for the past eight years. During that time, Hamilton has developed a variety of platforms for the use of captioned telephone service, including Web CapTel and Hamilton Mobile CapTel. With Web CapTel, a user with an Internet connection and a web browser can see every word a caller says on a computer screen while using a standard or mobile telephone. Hamilton Mobile CapTel applications for the iPhone® and Blackberry® have been developed for the CapTel user on the go, and an application for the Android® is coming soon.

Hamilton CapTel is a service of Hamilton Relay which offers traditional Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS), Captioned Telephone, and Internet Relay. Hamilton provides Telecommunications Relay and/or Captioned Telephone services to 19 states, the District of Columbia, the Island of Saipan and the Virgin Islands.
